Atlanta Gas Light Company Names Manager for North Metro Atlanta

September 24, 2003

ATLANTA, Ga. -- (Sept. 24, 2003) - -- Atlanta Gas Light Company (AGLC), a subsidiary of AGL Resources (NYSE: ATG), has named Colleen Heflin as region manager overseeing service in the north metro Atlanta area. AGLC delivers natural gas to approximately 100,000 customers in the North Atlanta communities of Buckhead, Chamblee, Dunwoody and Doraville.

Heflin, who has been with AGLC since 1997, will oversee the Peachtree Service Center, which has 42 employees. She is responsible for the center's daily operations, which includes pipeline maintenance, customer service, meter reading and emergency repairs.

Before her promotion, Heflin managed AGLC's "Call Before You Dig" program. The damage control program educated the public about the importance of locating utilities in order to reduce pipeline disruptions from third-party digging. Under Heflin's management of the safety program, AGLC saw incidences of damage to its 55,584-mile pipeline system decline by more than 40 percent, resulting in increased public safety and savings of approximately $2.2 million for AGLC. Heflin worked closely with the Georgia Public Service Commission (GPSC) to reduce the number of third-party gas damages through the enforcement of the Georgia Utilities Facilities Protection Act (GUFPA).

During her career, Heflin has served AGLC as a region engineer and distribution engineer. In this role, she worked closely with several AGLC service centers in the design and construction of gas facilities. She was also assistant director of operations during the preparation of Y2K, and she currently serves on the board of the Georgia Utility Coordinating Council (GUCC).

Heflin also coordinated AGLC's participation in Project WINGS, a public-private partnership designed to promote wildlife habitat along utility rights-of-way. AGLC was the first natural gas company in the nation to join a program such as Project WINGS, which offers grants to land owners who provide wildlife habitat along rights-of-way.

Heflin serves on the board of the Georgia Utility Coordinating Council. AGLC selected her to participate in the Georgia 100 Exchange Program, a corporate mentoring program that pairs female employees with senior executives. Heflin also manages AGLC's participation in the Christmas in April program to renovate senior citizens' homes.

Heflin, who graduated from Auburn University with a bachelor's degree in civil engineering, is the daughter of Dr. Charles and Lily Edmonds of Auburn, Ala. She and her husband, John, an Auburn University engineering graduate who now attends medical school at Emory University, live in Atlanta.

The Peachtree center is located at 4959 New Peachtree Road, Chamblee, GA 30341. The AGLC non-emergency phone number is 770-994-1946 (1-800-427-5463 from outside metro Atlanta). The emergency number is 770-907-4231 (1-877-427-4321 from outside metro Atlanta).
