Atlanta Gas Light reinforces environmental commitment to the Clean Air Campaign

June 25, 2008

ATLANTA – June 25, 2008 Atlanta Gas Light announced today a $25,000 grant to The Clean Air Campaign, to be funded by the AGL Resources Private Foundation. The donation ties into the Foundation’s focus area of environmental stewardship.

“Through our Foundation, we strive to maintain a keen sensitivity to issues affecting our communities and our business,” said Suzanne Sitherwood, Foundation board member and president, Atlanta Gas Light. “We are pleased to champion The Clean Air Campaign in its efforts to preserve and enhance the quality of life of our communities.”

“This donation signals Atlanta Gas Light is taking a leadership position on reducing traffic and improving air quality,” explains Kevin Green, executive director, The Clean Air Campaign. “We are extremely grateful for the strong and productive relationship we have forged with Atlanta Gas Light and the AGL Resources Private Foundation.”

The Clean Air Campaign and its partner, Midtown Transportation Solutions have worked with Atlanta Gas Light and its affiliates on a range of effective programs that have provided employees with an improved telework program as well as better ways to get to work through carpools, vanpools and other commute options and incentives.  These programs have increased productivity, improved morale, reduced vehicle miles traveled, saved time and resulted in cleaner air.

To date, more than 300 employees of Atlanta Gas Light and its affiliates have participated in these commute option programs.  As a result, employees have reduced 204,450 vehicle miles traveled, resulting in more than 100 tons of pollutants not being discharged into the air. This has also resulted in an estimated savings to these employees of more than $83,000 (gasoline not burned, reduced vehicle expenses, etc.).

“Employees participating in The Clean Air Campaign are reaping the benefits,” said Sitherwood.

About The Clean Air Campaign The Clean Air Campaign is a not-for-profit organization that works with Georgia employers, commuters and schools to encourage actions that result in less traffic congestion and better air quality. To accomplish this goal, The Clean Air Campaign and its associate organizations work with more than 1,000 employers to custom design and implement commute options programs; help thousands of commuters annually find commute options that work for them, with targeted incentives to get them started; protects public health by issuing Smog Alert notices; and work with elementary and middle schools to empower children, parents and teachers to play a positive role in reducing traffic and cleaning the air. Each day, these efforts help reduce traffic in the region by more than one million vehicle miles and keep more than 500 tons of pollution out of the air we breathe.
