The Chattahoochee Nature Center benefits from Atlanta Gas Light grant

June 25, 2008

ATLANTA – June 25, 2008 – Atlanta Gas Light announced today a $25,000 grant to The Chattahoochee Nature Center, to be funded by the AGL Resources Private Foundation. The donation ties into the Foundation’s focus area of environmental stewardship.

“Through our Foundation, we strive to maintain a keen sensitivity to issues affecting our communities and our business,” said Suzanne Sitherwood, president, Atlanta Gas Light. “We are pleased to stand by The Chattahoochee Nature Center in their efforts to preserve and enhance the quality of life of our communities.”

The Chattahoochee River has become one of the most endangered natural resource in metro Atlanta. More than 4 million residents, business and power producers drain 300 million gallons a day from it and discharge 200 million gallons. The Chattahoochee Nature Center is dedicated to introducing people to the ecology of the river, and works to provide a learning environment that allows people to better understand their impact on the natural world and make informed decisions.

The Chattahoochee Nature Center is in the midst of building a new, interactive Discovery Center and lakeside Discovery Pavilion. These new features will provide the community with opportunities to learn about our water shortage issues, the current drought and the environmental challenges facing the Chattahoochee River Basin.

“CNC has reached out to the community for help as we create the Interpretive Center for the Chattahoochee River”, said Executive Director, Ann Bergstrom.  “We are grateful to Atlanta Gas Light for recognizing the need for this new Center and for lending their support to this critical community initiative!”
“Atlanta Gas Light is excited to contribute to these new venues, and reinforce the environmental education of our community,” said Sitherwood.
